Edible Landscape Design

A practical plan for turning your yard into a productive edible landscape

Many homeowners are curious about growing more food at home - but aren’t quite sure where to start.

Most yards are capable of a lot more than they’re currently doing.

They can produce food.

Support pollinators.

Improve soil and water health.

And still look beautiful in your landscape.

But for most homeowners, the challenge isn’t motivation - it’s knowing where to start.

Which plants will actually grow well in your yard?

How much time will this really take?

How do you avoid costly mistakes?

And how do you make it all come together without looking haphazard?

That’s where a thoughtful design comes in.

My edible landscape design service helps turn the idea of a more productive yard into a clear, site-specific plan you can actually put into practice.

1) Book Your Consultation

Once you book your consultation, you’ll receive a short questionnaire.

This helps me understand:

  • Your goals for the space

  • Your gardening experience

  • How much time and energy you want to spend maintaining the space

  • What’s working - and what isn’t - in your current yard

This helps our site visit focus on the ideas that matter most to you.

How It Works

2) Site Visit

Next, we meet at your property for a 90-minute site visit where we walk the yard together.

During this walk, we’ll:

  • Tour the yard and discuss your ideas for the space

  • Identify opportunities to incorporate edible plants into your existing landscaping

  • Evaluate the practical conditions of your site

  • Look at existing plants, structure, and layout

This also includes assessing things like:

  • Sun and shade patterns

  • Soil conditions

  • Water flow and drainage

  • Microclimates and problem areas

By the end of the visit, we’ll have a good understanding of how your space could support an edible landscape.

3) Design & Plan

After the site visit, I’ll create a custom edible landscape design for your property.

You’ll receive a computer-drawn site design showing how edible plants can be integrated into your landscape in a way that is both beautiful and functional

You’ll also receive my Practical Plant Guide, which includes guidance on plant installation, maintenance, and use.

I’ll also include a list of suggested nurseries and plant sources so you know where to purchase the plants laid out in your plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to implement everything all at once?

No. Most homeowners install their landscape in stages over time.

That’s the beauty of having a fully-created design. You can see the big picture all at once, while only installing what you’re able to handle each year.

What kinds of plants are we talking about?

Plants vary depending on your site, but may include combinations of:

  • Fruit trees

  • Berry bushes

  • Herbs (perennial and annual)

  • Perennial vegetables

  • Pollinator-supporting plants

The goal is to create a landscape that is both productive and visually cohesive.

Will the landscape still look attractive?

Yes. Edible landscaping doesn’t mean turning your yard into a veggie farm (unless you want it to).

The design focuses on integrating edible plants into the landscape in a way that feels beautiful.
